Union Budget 2024: Presenting the budget, Sitharaman said that the government will provide financial assistance for individual projects through the Advanced Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBF) and other sources.
Union Budget 2024: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a comprehensive financial assistance scheme of Rs 11,500 crore to strengthen flood control measures and irrigation projects in different states. Presenting the budget for 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said that the government will provide financial assistance for different projects through the Advanced Irrigation Benefit Program (AIBF) and other sources.
These projects include the Kosi-Mechi inter-state link and barrage, river pollution prevention and irrigation projects, and 20 other ongoing schemes. In addition, flood control and irrigation programmes related to Kosi will be surveyed and investigated.
Sitharaman said, Bihar often floods. Many times the reason for this is the release of water into rivers from outside the country. The plan to build flood control structures in Nepal has not yet moved forward. She said that the state of Assam, which faces floods every year due to the Brahmaputra and its tributaries coming from outside India, will also get assistance for flood management and related projects. Sitharaman said we will provide assistance to Assam for flood management and related projects.
Referring to the extensive damage caused to Himachal Pradesh by floods last year, Sitharaman said, our government will provide assistance for reconstruction and rehabilitation through multilateral development assistance. Similar assistance was also promised to Uttarakhand, which suffered a lot due to cloudburst and massive landslides. Recently, there was a devastating flood in Sikkim which wreaked havoc in the entire state. The Finance Minister said that the government will also provide assistance to Sikkim.(zeebusiness)
