The first trailer for Flight Risk, an aerial thriller directed by Mel Gibson, has been released. The film stars Mark Wahlberg as a commercial pilot whose motives are far more dangerous than they appear.

In the movie, Wahlberg’s character is tasked with transporting a U.S. air marshal, played by Michelle Dockery, and a fugitive, portrayed by Topher Grace, to a trial. However, it soon becomes clear that the pilot is not who he seems, setting up a tense and claustrophobic conflict at 30,000 feet.

“Audiences, at first, are going to think, ‘Here comes Mark to do something to save the day.’ But 15 minutes in, you realize this is not what you thought it was going to be,” Wahlberg said in a statement about his role.

Flight Risk is written by Jared Rosenberg and marks Gibson’s return to directing after his 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge, which received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination. He is also currently preparing to begin production on The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection, a two-part sequel to The Passion of the Christ, set to film in early 2025 in Malta.

The film is produced by Lionsgate and is set for release on January 24, 2025.
