Girl killed as tree branch reportedly falls on her at Kothamangalam-OxBig News Network

A girl riding pillion on a motorcycle was killed when a large palm tree branch reportedly fell on her, apparently after an elephant uprooted the tree at Chembankuzhy in Kothamangalam taluk on Saturday evening. The boy who rode the bike sustained injuries in the incident.

The deceased was identified as Ann Mary C., 21, from Palakkad. She was a third-year electrical engineering student at MA College, Kothamangalam. The boy, Altaf Abubacker, 21, is a third-year mechanical engineering student at the same college. Though both were rushed to a private hospital at Kothamangalam, the girl succumbed to her injuries.

“The girl had pulse when she was brought in. Though we administered CPR [cardiopulmonary resuscitation], she could not be revived. The boy was later shifted to a hospital in Kochi,” said sources at the hospital at Kothamangalam. The boy’s condition is said to be stable. The girl’s body had since been taken to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery.

The two were returning to Kothamangalam from Idukki when the accident occurred along Neriamangalam-Idukki road.
