Minister for Municipal Administration Rahim Khan has said that the government is contemplating the introduction of property tax collection model followed by the Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in other municipality limits also.
Inaugurating a newly constructed building for the City Municipal Council in Yadgir on Monday, Mr. Khan said that collecting taxes from buildings has become a challenging job.
“Many private schools, hospitals and other buildings have been running activities and business without paying taxes. Hence, the CMC has now to collect taxes like how the BBMP is collecting them. It has been planned to issue A and B khatas to buildings enabling owners to get benefits from government schemes and also financial assistance from bankers,” he said.
Mr. Khan said that each municipality will get ₹25 crore from the budget to take up development works. He added that residential quarters will be constructed soon for CMC employees and workers in Yadgir.
Recalling his association with the district, he said: “My father is from Yadgir district. He shifted to Bidar after marriage. I was born and brought up there. However, I have a special concern for the district and I will take steps to resolve the drinking water and sanitation problems after discussing them with the district in-charge Minister and MLAs.”
Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Sharanabasappa Darshanapur lauded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for spending ₹65,000 crore for the people through guarantee schemes as promised during the Assembly polls and also releasing grants for development works.
“Mr. Siddaramaiah released ₹5,000 crore to the Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board and an action plan has already been submitted for development works. The State government plans to develop rural roads in the State and also in the Kalyan Karnataka region under the Pragathi Path and Kalyan Path as ₹5,000 crore will soon be released for the purpose,” he said.
Mr. Darshanapur said that the government released ₹350 crore for Backward Classes and Minorities, ₹2,000 crore for Minor Irrigation, ₹890 crore for Health, ₹15 crore for Public Works in each constituency and ₹10 crore to each MLA recently. However, BJP leaders are making a false statement that the State government has no grant for development works, he said.
Presiding over the programme, MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur said that development works in Yadgir city are being taken up. He said that ₹4 crore will be released for the development of the road stretch from Basaveshwar Gunj to Chakrakatta, ₹3 crore for the construction of a vegetable market, ₹8 crore for the construction of the road stretch from Gandhi Circle to Hattikuni Cross, ₹2 crore for the construction of a filter bed and ₹44 crore under the Amrit Yojna for drinking water.
President of Yadgir CMC Lalita Anpur recalled the contribution of the former MLA late Venkatareddy Mudnal in initiating development in the region.
MLA Raja Venugopal Naik, CMC vice-president Rukiya Begum, Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) Lavish Ordia, CMC Commissioner Umesh Chavan and others were present.
