India and Mumbai batter Sarafaraz Khan revealed that he had promised family and friends that he will score a century for his injured brother Musheer as well in the Irani Cup. Notably, Musheer was set to play in the Irani Cup along with his brother Sarfaraz.
However, the 19-year-old met an accident while travelling to Lucknow to participate in the game and fractured his neck. As a result, only Sarfaraz could feature in the match for Mumbai and the star batter made his presence felt with a sensational double hundred scoring an unbeaten 222 (286).
Following his marathon knock, Sarfaraz opened up on how it was an emotional week for his family revealed his promise to his family and teammates for scoring for his brother as well.
“It has been an emotional week for me. I had promised my family and teammates that ‘if I am set, if I cross the fifty, I will score a double hundred – a hundred for me and hundred for my brother (Musheer),” Sarfaraz said after Day 3 of the Irani Cup.
“If he (Musheer) would have played, Abbu (father Naushad) would have been prouder. Unfortunately, he met with an accident. So, I thought I have to somehow score a double ton in this match,” he added.

Sarfaraz registered the highest score by a Mumbai batter in Irani Cup on Day 2 surpassing the previous record of 195 runs set by Ramnath Parkar in 1972. The 26-year-old also became the fourth-youngest player to score a double century in the tournament after Gundappa Viswanath (25 years and 255 days), Pravin Amre (22 years and 80 days), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (21 years and 63 days).
With his knock, he also joined illustrious group of players, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Shikhar Dhawan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who each have two centuries in the Irani Cup. Courtesy of his innings, Mumbai posted a massive score of 537 in the first innings.
In reply, Rest of India also flexed their batting muscles on Day 3 as Abhimanyu Easwaran’s unbeaten 151 helped them finish on 289/4 at stumps.
