Captain America is set to make his hero’s landing in cinemas this Friday, bringing a fresh chapter in the star-spangled Avenger’s legacy. This time, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is officially taking flight in ‘Brave New World’. Packed with high-octane action, political intrigue, and a star-studded cast, this film promises to shake up the MCU in ways we’ve never seen before.
Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore, known for backing films like ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Black Panther’ and more, returns as producer for this new chapter in the saga. While the project sees him reuniting with Mackie, Hollywood legend Harrison Ford will be turning a shade red as Thunderbolt Ross, succeeding the late William Hurt. In an interview with ETimes, Moore shared insights into Ford’s portrayal of the character and his approach to the role.
Discussing the decision to bring in Ford as Ross, after Hurt’s passing Moore explained, “He was the only person we ever talked about casting after Bill passed. What we didn’t realize, but probably should have, is that Harrison is a big fan of Bill’s work. He really felt like taking the role was both a homage to his friend and fellow performer who he admired and also a way to continue building on the legacy of the character that was first introduced in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.””We felt incredibly lucky to have an actor of his calibre in the film,” he added.
One of the biggest surprises, according to Moore, was Ford’s willingness to fully immerse himself in the role, particularly as he transformed into Red Hulk. “Sometimes being a Hulk can feel a little self-conscious because you’re wearing dots and doing motion capture on set. You have to growl and prowl,” Moore noted. “It was really cool to see how much Harrison really embraced that and didn’t feel embarrassed.”
Moore believes Ford’s commitment had a ripple effect on the entire production. “I think it let everyone else settle back because if Harrison Ford can take this seriously, and if Harrison Ford can buy into this film, it allowed everyone else to buy in a little bit more as well.”
While Moore, like many other fans are excited to see the Red Hulk in action, he expressed his hopes that Brave New World would elevate Mackie’s Captain America in the same way ‘Winter Soldier’ did for Chris Evans and ‘Black Panther’ did for Chadwick Boseman. “He’s funny, he’s emotional, he moves well, he’s a great performer,” said Moore, praising his leading man’s dedication to the role. “I just hope people love the movie. I know how much work Mackie’s put into this role, both in this film and over the last decade.”
With ‘Captain America: Brave New World‘ set to hit theatres on February 14, anticipation and expectations are running high for Mackie’s first full-fledged outing as the new Captain and Ford’s portrayal of a Hulked-out US President.
