Hrithik Roshan and Rakesh Roshan had a rocky relationship during ‘Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai; his mother Pinkie Roshan would intervene during arguments | Hindi Movie News

Hrithik Roshan made his debut with ‘Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai‘ which was directed by his father Rakesh Roshan. The film was a huge hit and got a lot of love even when it re-released now again after 25 years. On the occasion, a documentary based on ‘The Roshans’ has also been released on OTT. It traces the journey of Roshan Lal Nagrath, Rakesh Roshan, Rajesh Roshan and Hrithik roshan. In this documentary, Hrithik’s mom Pinkie Roshan revealed how him and his father would have arguments during the making of his debut film.
Pinkie Roshan said in the documentary, “Every second day, I would go and ask Duggu (Hrithik), ‘How’s your day? How’s the shooting going?’ Sometimes, he would be very happy; but there were days when I found him a little sad sometimes. When asked what happened, he would come out of it eventually and tell me he wanted to do it (the scenes) a different way. And Papa said, ‘No, this is fine.’ I used to hear him and feel bad as the mother. So, from his room, I would go to my room and talk to my husband and ask ‘What happened today?’ He would say, ‘He (Hrithik) doesn’t know anything. I am the director. I know how to make movies.’”
Rakesh Roshan also added, “I and Hrithik used to argue. He’d say, ‘Dad, I’ll do it this way.’ I would say, ‘No, Duggu, this won’t look good. Do it this way.’ And I had to balance because he’s an actor as well as my son. He was in the same dilemma that I am his director and his father. So, we had arguments, but the results used to be positive.”
Hrithik recalled on this, “I always saw the glass half full. So I complained a lot. I remember I had not colour-corrected Raj in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. I had not corrected his skin for two or three scenes. Because I was handling that, and the overseas print had already left. So I came to my dad really upset that, ‘How could you let that go? It’s so important.’ And that’s the first time he gave it back to me. He turned to my mom and he said, ‘I am doing everything for him. And he’s sitting here and complaining.’ And that’s the night I found out that the house and cars were mortgaged, and how much was at stake.”
However, Hrithik expressed immense love for his father as he said, “My father is, was and always will be someone who loves deeply. But his expression of love is the kind that was taught to him when he was growing up. I don’t think he was granted the kind of compassion from the world, and the kind of love. So, the only way he learnt was to be hard on himself. And that is how he expresses his love now. And, it’s often misunderstood.”
