Ideal leader Shubman Gill thriving in IPL 2025, says GT assistant coach Parthiv Patel-OxBig News Network

Gujarat Titans went to the top of the Indian Premier League table after beating Mumbai Indians in a final-ball thriller on Tuesday, May 7. GT captain Shubman Gill won the player of the match award after hitting 43 off 46 balls in testing conditions at the Wankhede Stadium.

Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, Gujarat have thrived this season. The batter has led from the front, hitting 508 runs from 11 matches. And in the field, Gill has led the side with a feisty nature, not afraid to show his emotions to the match officials.

Speaking about the batter, GT assistant coach Parthiv Patel said that Gill has behaved like an ideal leader, imparting knowledge to the juniors, commanding a presence in the dressing room, while continuing to bat well.

“He has batted really well throughout the tournament. He has captained really well. He has been great with youngsters and is passing on knowledge to other youngsters. He is very proactive on the ground. You can feel his presence in the dressing room, that is what you look for in a leader. His game sense is very good,” Parthiv Patel said after GT’s match against Mumbai Indians.

Tuesday’s game at the Wankhede Stadium turned out to be a very tricky one for GT, whose innings faced continued breaks in momentum due to rain. None amongst the GT top 3 were able to graft the innings and take the team over the line, as pressure piled on in the final few overs. The team’s middle order nearly floundered the match, but Gerald Coetzee and Rahul Tewatia were somehow able to take GT to the winning score.

“They (middle order) hardly got a chance to bat. Today was the only day when none of the top three got a fifty. It is just one odd game, but we should have made some right decisions. We are not the team who are happy with just two points, but we want to improve,” Parthiv Patel concluded.
