Shubman Gill continued his love affair with Ahmedabad as he scored a blazing hundred against England in the 3rd ODI on Wednesday, February 12. Gill got to his hundred in just 95 balls as he punished the England bowlers at the Narendra Modi stadium in front of a packed crowd. This was Gill’s 7th hundred in the format.

Gill has been India’s most consistent batter in the ongoing series as he scored 87 in the first match and followed it up with a 60 in Cuttack. The 25-year-old had some early work to do as Rohit Sharma was dismissed early for just 1 run. Gill and Kohli weathered the storm from the England pacers early on with the former being the aggressor in the partnership. Gill would hit some glorious boundaries to get going and hit Gus Atkinson for 2 boundaries in the 10th over.

Kohli and Gill started to take apart Joe Root and Atkinson continued to leak runs at the other end. Gill would get to his fifty with a fantastic boundary off Adil Rashid and got to the landmark in 51 balls. This meant that Gill became the 7th Indian batter to score 50+ runs in each match of a 3-match bilateral series after the likes of Kris Srikkanth, MS Dhoni and Mohammed Azharuddin. Once Kohli fell, Gill shifted gears and continued to get the boundaries as the momentum continued for India.

During his knock, Gill also became the fastest batter in ODI history to get to 2500 runs.

Gill got to his 90s with a boundary off Livingstone in the 27th over. He started to depend on singles and rotating his strike at this point and got to his hundred in the 32nd over with a boundary. Gill scored 14 boundaries and 2 sixes as he made his way to the hundred.

Gill’s golden run in Ahmedabad continues

Gill’s hundred on Wednesday was his first hundred in ODIs at the Narendra Modi stadium. This meant that Gill now has hundred in all formats of the game at the ground. He also boasts a terrific IPL record at the ground with 953 runs in 18 matches at the ground with 3 hundreds.
