In a rare show of braveness, management, and comradeship, Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari of SIKKIM SCOUTS of the Indian Army made the last word sacrifice whereas saving a fellow soldier throughout an operational activity in North Sikkim on 22 May 2025.
The 23-year-old officer, commissioned lower than six months in the past on 14 December 2024, was main a Route Opening Patrol in the direction of a Tactical Operating Base (TOB) in Sikkim – a key put up being ready for future deployment. Around 11:00 AM, Agniveer Stephan Subba – a member of the patrol – misplaced footing whereas crossing a log bridge and was swept away by the highly effective mountain stream.

However, Lieutenant Tiwari was tragically swept away by the forceful present. Despite determined efforts by his patrol, his physique was recovered 800 metres downstream by 11:30 AM.
Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari’s heroic motion is a shining instance of the Indian Army’s core values- selfless service, integrity, management by instance, and the unbreakable bond between officers and males, which transcends rank and is nurtured in each conflict and peace.
At simply 23 years of age, Lieutenant Tiwari embodied the best traditions of the Indian Army – putting the lifetime of a comrade above his personal, main from the entrance, and upholding the best requirements of army ethics and valour. The officer is survived by his dad and mom and a sister.
The Indian Army mourns the lack of a braveheart and a frontrunner, who regardless of his tender age and temporary service, leaves behind a legacy of braveness and camaraderie that may encourage generations of troopers to come back.
