Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) will set up an AKRUTI (Advanced Knowledge and Rurban Technology Implementation) centre on BLDE Society’s campus in Vijayapura.

This was announced after BARC officials signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BLDE Society’s Sri Sangana Basava Mahaswamiji Pharmacy College in Vijayapura recently.

College principal C. Mallikarjun Shetty and BARC’s Scientific Officer and AKRUTI Group’s Technology Transfer and Collaboration Division Group Leader Bharathi A signed the agreement.

Under this agreement, Baba Atomic Research Centre will set up the AKRUTI (Advanced Knowledge and Rurban Technology Implementation) centre at BLDE Society.

This is a three-year agreement, during which teachers, students and the local community of the college will be able to access BARC’s innovative technologies.

Moreover, it aims to bridge the gap between advanced scientific research and rural empowerment. The centre will act as a focal point for demonstration, dissemination and practical training of BARC technologies, encouraging entrepreneurship, self-reliance and development of local enterprises.

Dr. Bharathi spoke about BARC’s history and growing commitment to social applications.

“This partnership in research will provide technology facilities to student entrepreneurs, teachers and farmers at low cost. This will encourage self-employment along with skill development in rural areas. Not only this, plans have also been made to conduct awareness and training programmes in the villages of Vijayapura district to bring scientific solutions to rural areas. Academically, through the AKRUTI centre, students and teachers will get internship opportunities, industry-related training and opportunities to visit BARC,” she said.

Dr. Shetty said that it is a matter of pride that this is the first time in the country that BARC has signed this agreement with the College of Pharmacy. He said that the technologies developed by the centre will be disseminated among the farming community by the college.

Professor of the Quality Assurance Department Sripada Potadar, who played an important role in this agreement, will now work as the coordinator of the centre.

Director of Research and Development in the college R.B. Kotnal, faculty members C.C. Patil, Gaviraj E.N., Santosh Karajagi, S.C. Marapur, V.P. Patil, S.S. Biradar, B.M. Patil, Sangappa Teli, Ajay Shahapur and others were present at the ceremony.

Society president and Minister M.B. Patil has congratulated the college principal and faculty members, said a release.
