Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to the Maoists to drop their guns and surrender as the Central government was determined to free the country of Maoism and naxal ideology by March 31, 2026.
Addressing a meeting at Nizamabad in Telangana on Sunday (June 29), Mr. Amit Shah said those who want to surrender can surrender and join the mainstream like thousands of militants did in the North East to join the political mainstream.
“But those who pick up guns will not be spared,” he said, reiterating the Central government’s tough stance on extremism. He said over 1,500 naxals have surrendered in the last 18 months, and pointed out that over 10,000 former militants in the North East have renounced violence and joined the democratic process.
Mr. Shah questioned the Telangana Congress leadership for suggesting a dialogue with Maoists. “What will you tell the families of thousands of tribals who died due to Naxal violence? Will you justify talking to those who kill police officers, security personnel, and innocent civilians?” he asked, adding that naxalism has “destroyed India over the decades.” Addressing the public, he posed a direct question, “Should we eliminate Naxals or not?”
The Union Minister also urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to understand that the people gave him power to govern and eliminate the naxal ideology. “I fear the Congress party might turn Telangana into a haven for Maoists from across the country,” he said.
Mr. Amit Shah aimed at both the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accusing them of massive corruption and political hypocrisy. He said the BRS was rejected by the people for huge corruption, but the Revanth Reddy government has not booked a single case against the previous BRS regime.
The scams involved Dharani land records, Kaleshwaram project, Singareni recruitments, and TSPSC exam leaks, he alleged. “Just like KCR turned Telangana into an ATM for his family, the Congress has now turned it into an ATM for the Delhi high command,” he alleged.
Mr. Shah said the BJP was the only clean and capable alternative, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s double-engine sarkar can bring real progress. He also referred to Modi’s strong resolve to contain terrorism in the country and how Pakistan now fears India.
