The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) celebrated the first anniversary of its NICE Road-Electronics City bus route, reporting remarkable success. Over the past year, the service transported over 25 lakh passengers, generating ₹1,09,73,615 in profit.
The NICE-10 buses operate between Madavara on Tumakuru Road and Electronics City, utilising the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) Road to connect Tumakuru Road with Hosur Road. The service was inaugurated in December 2023 to improve connectivity to the IT hub of the city.
NICE-10 has become a favourite among commuters, cementing its position as the most popular BMTC service on NICE Road. BMTC also runs buses on the NICE Road from other areas, including Vijayanagar, Vidyaranyapura, and Basaveshwara Nagar. However, NICE-10 outshines these routes in passenger numbers and popularity, according to BMTC officials.
Currently, BMTC deploys 21 buses on the NICE-10 route and 15 buses on other NICE Road routes. “The NICE Road’s strategic connectivity and reduced travel time have made it an attractive choice for commuters heading to Electronics City. The journey on the NICE-10 route takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, a significant improvement over the congestion-ridden city roads,” a senior BMTC official said.
Monthly, the NICE-10 service accommodates around 3 lakh passengers, with BMTC conducting 191 trips daily via NICE Road. Officials highlighted the operational advantages of this route, noting that buses on NICE Road cover 360 km daily compared to just 200 km on city roads owing to traffic snarls.
“Additionally, buses achieve better fuel efficiency on this route, offering a mileage of 5 km per litre, as opposed to 3 km per litre within city limits of the BMTC,” official added.
“The NICE Road bus service has been a game changer, and I save nearly an hour every day on my commute, and the journey is much more comfortable compared to city routes,” said Suresh Kumar, a regular commuter from Nagasandra.
Another passenger, Sangeetha Krishnakumar, who frequently travels to Electronics City from Madavara, said: “The reliability and efficiency of this service are good. It has reduced the hassle of dealing with city traffic and reaching office comfortably.”
