BREAKING: Massive Explosion At Firecracker Factory In Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu; Casualties Feared-OxBig News Network

At least five employees were killed and a few others were injured as a massive explosion occurred in a private firecracker unit in Chinna Kamanpatti village, close to Sivakasi, on Monday morning. The explosion took place when the workers were on duty, which led to a series of minor explosions that filled the air with heavy plumes of smoke and fire. The fire spread quickly, leaving little time for the workers to flee, reported villagers.

Emergency responders, including several fire vehicles, came in as a rapid response. Firefighters are fighting to put out the fire with continued explosions from unburnt firecrackers disrupting rescue and containment efforts.

Investigation Ongoing Amid Safety Fears

The police have filed a case and initiated an immediate probe into the accident. Although preliminary reports indicate possible safety breaches, the reason for the blast would only be concluded after a detailed investigation by district authorities and forensic experts who have gone to the site to pick up evidence.

Sivakasi, which is known to be a major firecracker manufacturing hub in India, has a record of such firecracker industry tragedies caused by inadequate safety measures in smaller units. This one too has brought into the limelight once again severe doubts about the maintenance of safety measures in the industry.

The public has been advised by the authorities to steer clear of the affected area as a precautionary measure. Compensation for the victims’ families is expected to be announced by the state government, amid increasing demands for stricter inspections of factories and enhanced safety measures.
