The State Government is resorting to large-scale oppression of the student community of University of Hyderabad (UoH) who have been fighting to protect the university’s land, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao alleged after a group of UoH students met him on the issue here on Monday (March 31, 2025).
He sought to know why the Congress government in the State was trying to take control over the 400-acre land parcel in Kancha Gachibowli using hundreds of bulldozers and excavators to clear the land of trees. Stating that the Gachibowli, Nanakramguda and Financial District areas had transformed into a concrete jungle in a very short time in the name of development, and the only lung space left for the western Hyderabad was UoH and the land parcel around it. He sought to know from the government as to what was wrong with the students’ demand for taking up an environment impact assessment study for the 400 acres land parcel.
A public interest litigation on the issue was pending in the High Court, but the State government was using all its might to take control of the land by felling trees and killing animals. He assured the students that the BRS would raise the issue on every appropriate platform and demanded all political parties including BJP to spell out their stand on the issue.
