The Uttara Kannada district administration is making preparations for conducting an exercise for effectively protecting citizens during times of crisis in accordance with the direction issued by the Union government in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack.

Chairing a preparatory meeting in Karwar on Tuesday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada K. Lakshmipriya said that the post Pahalgam, the Union government identified Uttara Kannada under Category 2. And, Mallapur in the district has been chosen for conducting the mock drill.

“Uttara Kannada has the longest coastline and several sensitive areas because of which it has been identified for the mock drill. We have been informed that a date within a week will be given for conducting the mock drill and accordingly, we are making preparations,” she said.

The Deputy Commissioner said that only one place in the district has been chosen for the mock drill. “The mock drill will include evacuation of citizens to safety, protection from fire, guarding of the coastline. Under the exercise, preparedness of hospitals in handling healthcare emergencies will be checked along with guarding sensitive areas. All necessary steps are being taken and citizens will have no reason to panic,” she said.

Superintendent of Police Narayan, Assistant Commissioner Kanishka, Additional Superintendent of Police Jagadish, officials from NPCIL at Kaiga and others were present.
