Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the Union government to expeditiously accord technical and financial sanctions for the northern part of the proposed Regional Ring Road, spanning 159 km.

The Chief Minister made the request to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday. Mr. Revanth Reddy, who called on the Union Minister on Thursday evening during his visit to the national capital, reminded the latter that the northern part of the RRR had been declared as NH 161AA in 2017 itself and the State government had completed acquisition of 94% of land required for the project.

Elevated corridor

The Chief Minister referred to the Telangana Government’s decision to construct a four-lane elevated road connecting Hyderabad with Srisailam. The 125 km of the road between Hyderabad-Srisailam was developed on a par with the standards prescribed for the national highway and the remaining 62 km was passing through the Amrabad tiger reserve.

As a result, securing forest and environmental clearances had become an obstacle in taking up the ambitious project. The Centre should ensure clearances from the departments concerned and allocate the required funds in the current year’s budget. He informed Mr. Gadkari that construction of the elevated corridor would reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh by 45 km.

DPR for highway

Mr. Revanth Reddy also represented the issue pertaining to development of Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway into a six-lane one. He wanted the Union government to take steps to speedily complete the detailed project report pertaining to the expansion so that works could be taken up for reducing the fatal accidents on the busy highway.

He asked Mr. Gadkari to see that permissions for construction of bypass on the southern side of Warangal was accorded soon, as the current highway was passing through Warangal and Hanamkonda cities. The bypass, forming part of the NH-63 connecting Telangana to Chhattisgarh, would ensure that people from four corners of the two cities would be able to access it.
