Constables likely be allowed to wear P caps-OxBig News Network

The constabulary in the Karnataka will henceforth likely be allowed to wear P caps, like the ones usually worn by police personnel above the rank of assistant sub inspector, instead of slouch hats.

To differentiate between constabulary and senior officers, constabulary will likely be prescribed a P cap of a different colour, and not Khaki worn by senior officers.

The Karnataka State Police had suggested that the constables be allowed to wear a beret cap of either khaki or green colour. The police had organised an exhibition of caps used by constables of various state police forces in the country. On the sidelines of the annual IPS officers’ meet, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reportedly picked blue P caps worn by constables of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states and directed the State police to prescribe something similar to the constables in the state.

During the previous legislature session, following a question raised by JDS MLC C.N. Manjegowda, flagging concerns over the slouch hats being uncomfortable, especially during summers, the State government had asked the state police chief to study the issue and submit a report.

A committee led by Additional Director General of Police Umesh Kumar recommended against the use of P caps, used by assistant sub-inspectors and above to constabulary as well, and recommended the use of thinner beret caps instead, sources said
