Internally displaced children housed in relief camps across Manipur’s capital Imphal had a day out at a water amusement park on Sunday (March 23, 2025).

The visit of an unspecified number of children was arranged by the State’s Tourism Department while the Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited provided refreshments and necessary assistance to them.

The water park at Thenguchingjin in the Imphal East district was inaugurated by former Chief Minister, Nongthombam Biren Singh in March 2024. He resigned on February 9, four days before the President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur.

Taking to X, he said he coordinated with the government departments to provide free passes for the relief camp children to the park, as assured to the representatives of the Meitei people displaced from the Kuki-Zo-dominated Churachandpur district. The representatives visited him at his residence a day before the Yaoshang (Holi) festival.

Expressing his happiness in facilitating the water park trip for the children displaced from Churachandpur, Mr. Singh thanked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of the Heingang Assembly constituency for making the visit a success.

He represents the Heingang seat.

A year ago, the Manipur government announced plans to expand the amusement park by adding a trekking rail and a toy train. It also said steps have been taken to construct nine such amusement parks elsewhere in the State for ₹3.5 crore each.

Among the places shortlisted are Churachandpur, Jiribam, and Kangpokpi, three hotspots of the ethnic conflict that claimed more than 250 lives and left some 60,000 homeless.
