The Kamakshipalya traffic police on Tuesday caught a 46-year-old delivery executive for allegedly driving his scooter with a fake number plate to avoid fines for multiple traffic violations.
The accused, identified as Lakshminarayan, was caught on Magadi Road based on a tip-off. The police found that he had 127 violations and the fines amounted to ₹65,500.
A probe revealed that Lakshminarayan had two vehicles and would swap their number plates. While 100 violations were linked to one number plate with a fine of ₹53,000, 24 cases were for the other plate amounting to ₹12,000, the police said.
According to officials, both the accused and his family had used the vehicles, contributing to the high number of violations. The accused allegedly confessed that he was deliberately violating the traffic rules to meet the deadlines for deliveries.
The officials served notice and seized the vehicle following which the accused paid the fines and said that he will follow traffic rules without fail.
