The Central Government has prolonged the tenure of Dr Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), by one yr.
This is the second extension for the DRDO chief, who had assumed workplace in August 2022.
The Cabinet Committee on Appointments has authorised and extension in his time period from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, or until additional orders, in accordance with a communique issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on May 26.
An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and the Ohio State University, USA, Dr Kamat had joined DRDO in 1989 and was earlier Director General (Naval Systems and Materials).
