The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has transferred the technology of nine defence systems to the industry for commercial manufacturing, which will help strengthen the defence industrial ecosystem.
The licensing agreements of the equipment, developed by DRDO’s Vehicles Research and Development Establishment, were handed over to representatives of 10 different industrial houses.
These include entities in the public as well as private sector. The licences of some of the systems have been provided to more than one firm.
The technologies for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Recce Vehicle (Tracked) Mark-II and Expandable Mobile Shelter were handed over to Bharat Electronics Limited.
The Full Trailer of the 70-tonne Tank Transporter for main battle Tank Arjun and Unit Maintenance Vehicle for Arjun tank will be manufactured by BEML Limited, Tata International Vehicle Applications, SDR Auto Private Limited and John Galt International.
The Mounted Gun System will be manufactured by Bharat Forge Limited and the Anti-Terrorist Vehicle-Tracked Version by Metaltech Motor Bodies Private Limited.
The Multi-Purpose Decontamination System will be produced by Dass Hitachi Limited and Goma Engineering Private Limited.
The technology for the Vajra-Riot Control Vehicle has been handed over to Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
Dr Samir Kamat, Secretary Defence Research and Development and Chairman DRDO, while complementing DRDO and the industry for the exceptional performance of indigenous systems during Operation Sindoor, suggested the industry to plan for surge capacity.
VRDE also signed a memorandum of understanding with COEP Technological University, Pune, to jointly work on cutting-edge technologies and emerging scientific domains.
