External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday (May 25, 2025) had a telephonic dialog along with his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand and the 2 leaders mentioned strengthening the connection between the 2 nations.

Indo-Canadian Ms. Anand, 58, was appointed as Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs earlier this month in a Cabinet reshuffle introduced by Prime Minister Mark Carney virtually two weeks after his Liberal Party received the federal elections.

“Appreciate the telecon with FM @AnitaAnandMP of Canada. Discussed the prospects of India-Canada ties. Wished her a very successful tenure,” Mr. Jaishankar posted on X.

“Thank you Minister @DrSJaishankar for the productive discussion today on strengthening Canada–India ties, deepening our economic cooperation, and advancing shared priorities. I look forward to continuing our work together,” Ms. Anand mentioned on X.

On May 14, Mr. Jaishankar congratulated Indo-Canadian lawmaker Anita Anand on her appointment as Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Ms. Anand was the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry earlier than the Canada elections and previously has served in a number of roles, together with defence minister. She changed Melanie Joly, who’s now the Minister of Industry.
