Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that errors or shortcomings, if any, in the report on Socio-economic and Educational Survey of families in Karnataka (caste census) will be corrected.
Speaking to mediapersons at Nagamangala in Mandya district on April 22, Mr. Siddaramaiah said he has sought the opinion of ministers and party members. On receiving them, the issue will be reviewed and a suitable decision will be taken in the cabinet meeting, he said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah lashed out at the BJP for criticising the report, saying the party has no moral right to do so. “The report was submitted by Jayaprakash Hegde, who was appointed as chairman of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes during the tenure of the BJP,” he said.
Responding to the BJP’s claim that the Muslim population has increased by 90% compared to the 1984 survey while the increase in the Lingayat population has been recorded as only 8%, the Chief Minister said ‘figures are based on the data from the Kantharaju Commission, and Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde has made his recommendations based on the data’.
