Expert flags lack of support for farmer-managed seed system-OxBig News Network

Regine Andersen, Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI), Norway on Wednesday called for striking a balance between farmer-managed seed systems (FMSS) and the formal seed system, so that full potential could be achieved to ensure food security.

Speaking at the MSSRF Millennial Lecture on FMSS and farmers’ rights Promoting seed and food security among smallholder farmers at the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, she pointed out that many FMSS lacked technical support, equipment, storage facilities and adequate marketing opportunities, and could not even sell the seeds in some places
