Former Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal supremo Om Prakash Chautala, 89, died at his Gurugram residence around noon today (Dec 20).

The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) president suffered a cardiac arrest at his Gurugram home and was immediately rushed to hospital but could not be saved, the spokesperson told PTI.

Son of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal, Mr. Chautala served as the Chief Minister of Haryana five times. He was first sworn in as the CM in December 1989, when he was a member of the Janata Dal. Between July 1990 and April 1991, Mr. Chautala served two brief terms as the CM.

After he joined the INLD, Mr. Chautala served as the Haryana CM for two consecutive terms from July 1999 to 2005.
