Former Finance Minister and adviser of Vijnana Keralam project T.M. Thomas Isaac has stressed the need to increase women’s workforce participation for Kerala’s progress and development.

While male workforce participation stands at 70%, women’s participation in Kerala is still below 40%. He said this gender employment gap could be reduced by enhancing both job skills and opportunities for women, Dr. Isaac said. He was addressing a discussion here on Thursday organised in connection with the upcoming Mega Job Fair in Thrissur on April 26.

The event, titled “Employment and Growth – A Dialogue with Dr. T.M. Thomas Isaac,” was part of the HR Conclave led by Vijnana Kerala (Thrissur). Kerala Institute of Local Administration facilitator Anoop Kishore presiding over the session.

Among the 1,53,000 jobseekers registered in the district, training and support would be given to those participating in the fair to secure jobs. In this effort, 24 job stations and 94 facilitation centres are operational across the district.

K-DISC (Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council) Associate Director M.A. Sumi provided an explanation of the programme.

The event was attended by District Industries Centre Deputy Director Linu George, Kerala Small Scale Industries Association Secretary Nobi Joseph, and senior vice-president of the Thrissur Management Association C. Padmakumar.
