India has pledged to extend all possible assistance to Amit Gupta, an Indian techie from Gujarat’s Vadodara, who has been detained in Qatar since January 1 in connection with an alleged data theft case.
Gupta, who was serving as Tech Mahindra’s country head in Qatar, has reportedly been under detention for several months, and his family has expressed concerns over the prolonged ordeal, struggling to secure his release.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal said, “Our Embassy in Doha is closely following the developments in regard to the case. We requested consular access to meet Amit Gupta to ascertain his well-being, and this was granted on 28th March 2025.”
He said the Embassy is also in touch with his family members and lawyers.
“We are aware that some Indians have been under detention in Qatar for investigations in a case or cases that may be related. Their families have been allowed to meet them and they are able to call their families regularly. Our Embassy will continue to render all possible help to the individuals and their families.”
