Madikeri town. The earthquake was epicentred 4.0 km east of northeast of Madikeri town in Kodagu district of Karnataka.

A low-intensity earthquake of 1.6 magnitude was recorded in Kodagu district of Karnataka on March 12.
According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the epicentre of the earthquake was 2.4 km north west of Made gram panchayat in Madikeri taluk of Kodagu district.
The KSNDMC recorded the earthquake at 10.49 AM.
According to the KSNDMC: “As per the seismic intensity map of the earthquake from the epicentre, the intensity observed is low. The tremor might be felt up to a maximum radial distance of 20 km from the epicentre.
“This type of earthquake does not create any harm to the local community, although there may be slight shaking observed locally. The epicentre falls in Seismic Zone III, wherein the possibility of damage due to earthquake is very less. Also, the epicentre is void of any structural discontinuities as per the tectonic map. The community need not panic as the intensity observed is low and not destructive.”

The co-ordinates of the earthquake are Lat: 12.4074° N, Long: 75.7051° E, and the depth is 5 km.
The earthquake epicentred at 4.0 km ENE of Madikeri town, Kodagu district, 4.5 km SE of II Monnageri village, Galibeedu gram panchayat, Madikeri taluk and 23.8 km WSW of Harangi Dam Observatory, Kushalnagar taluk, Kodagu district.
