NEW DELHI: A fresh drama erupted on Tuesday over the Delhi chief minister’s residence as AAP leader Atishi alleged BJP-led Union government of “snatching her home” for the second time in three months by cancelling the allotment. The dangal over the CM’s house escalated after BJP’s Amit Malviya stepped in to counter the Delhi CM by saying that she was “not evicted” and “never moved into Sheesh Mahal, which was allotted to her on October 11, 2024.”
During a press conference on Tuesday, Delhi CM Atishi said the BJP has thrown her out of the CM’s residence “for the second time in three months.”
‘Snatch our houses, abuse us or speak against our family, but …’
Targeting further, she said that BJP can stop AAP from working by snatching their houses, abusing them and speaking against their family but can’t stop their passion to work for the people of Delhi.
“The BJP thinks that they will stop us from working by snatching our houses, abusing us and speaking ill about my family. They can snatch our houses, stop our work but cannot stop our passion for working for the people of Delhi,” she said.
Unexpectedly, Atishi in her speech said if needed she would stay at the homes of Delhiites and keep working from them.
‘I will stay at homes of Delhiites’
“If needed, I will come and stay at the homes of the people of Delhi and keep working for the people of Delhi,” she said.
“Three months ago my belongings were thrown on the road. The BJP should remember, today when they have again thrown me out of the Chief Minister’s residence, I take an oath that I will ensure that every woman in Delhi gets Rs 2100, every priest and granthi gets Rs 18,000 honorarium and every elderly person gets free treatment under the Sanjeevani Yojana.”
‘Offered two other lavish bungalows’: BJP counters Atishi’s claim
BJP’s Amit Malviya took to X to “expose the false claims of Arvind Kejriwal’s protégé and Delhi CM, Atishi Marlena.”
He highlighted two facts to counter the Delhi CM and said firstly she “has NOT been evicted” and secondly “never moved into Sheesh Mahal, which was allotted to her on October 11, 2024.”
Intensifying the showdown over Delhi residence further, he said, “Atishi already has an official residence at 17 AB Mathura Road and has been offered two other lavish bungalows.”
‘She deliberately avoided taking possession,’ alleges Malviya
In his post, Malviya further asserted ‘why the allotment of ‘Sheesh Mahal’ has been withdrawn’ in two key reasons.
- “Failure to take possession: She was required to take possession within a week of allotment but failed to do so even after three months, in violation of rules,” he wrote.
- “CBI/ED investigation: The Sheesh Mahal is under scrutiny by the CBI/ED, with a CAG report confirming corruption in its construction. When the house was allotted, one of the conditions was that Atishi must cooperate with the investigations. However, she deliberately avoided taking possession, leaving the house locked and obstructing the investigating agencies,” he added in his X post.
‘She doesn’t want to offend Arvind Kejriwal’
The BJP leader said that Delhi CM is ‘LYING’ and shared letter from PWD. “She hasn’t still occupied it because she doesn’t want to offend Arvind Kejriwal. Hence, the allotment was withdrawn and two more bungalows have been offered to her, instead,” he said.
Single-phase voting in Delhi
Atishi’s allegations followed the Election Commission of India‘s announcement of Delhi Assembly polls dates. Delhiites will cast their votes in single phase on February 5 and the counting will be held on February 8.
“It is a single-phase election. We have deliberately kept polling on a Wednesday so more people come out to vote like we did in Maharashtra,” chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar said at a press conference.
