A month after drubbing in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday restructured leadership in six states with Delhi’s former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia being appointed incharge of the Punjab unit and Saurabh Bhardwaj state convener of Delhi.
A meeting of the party’s political affairs committee was held today at the residence of AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal where key decisions were taken.
While Sisodia was given the responsibility of the post of Punjab ‘prabhari’, the party’s national general secretary (organisation) Sandeep Pathak took charge as Chhattisgarh’s special ‘prabhari’. Gopal Rai has been named incharge of the Gujarat unit and Pankaj Gupta of Goa.
Former Delhi minister Satyendra Jain has been made co-incharge of the party in Punjab.
Mehraj Malik, who made inroads for AAP in Jammu and Kashmir by winning the 2024 Assembly elections from the Doda constituency, was appointed the party’s J&K president.
Partymen termed the appointments as a signal for a sharper focus on grassroots consolidation and electoral readiness.
Expressing gratitude to Kejriwal, Sisodia said his endeavour would be that all AAP leaders, workers and the government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann fulfil the expectations of the people of Punjab.
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress chief Devendra Yadav came down heavily on AAP’s decision to appoint Sisodia and Jain as Punjab’s incharge and co-incharge as the duo are facing serious corruption cases.
“AAP’s decision to make two corrupt former ministers, Sisodia and Jain, as ‘prabhari’ and ‘co-prabhari’ of Punjab, is a calculated move to loot the state before the people throw out AAP from power,” Yadav said.
