Nagapattinam govt. schoolchildren attend international drama festival in Chennai-OxBig News Network

Twelve Class 8 and 9 students from government schools in Nagapattinam district recently participated in the Tamil Nadu International Drama Festival held at the Museum Theatre, Egmore, Chennai, on July 9 and 10. The visit was part of an arts talent development tour organised by the district administration under the guidance of Collector P. Akash.

Students from Keechankuppam, Akkaraipettai, Santhanam Theru, and Xavier Higher Secondary School, Neermulai, earlier won first place in district-level inter-house theatre competitions and were trained by professional drama troupes.

In Chennai, the students witnessed performances by theatre groups from Tamil Nadu and South Korea and interacted with professors and students at the Government College of Fine Arts. They received theatre-making training from noted drama trainer Poongodi Madhiyarasu.

The group visited several educational and cultural landmarks, including Children’s Museum, Science Museum, Ethnology Gallery, and Connemara Public Library. The exposure helped students overcome stage fear and explore their artistic talents.

Teachers P. Shanmugasundaram and Uma Maheswari accompanied the group. The initiative was coordinated by the district administration’s District Education Empowerment Programme (DEEP).
