The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami pulled up the DMK government for, what he called, reports of the State government’s attempt to recruit members of the ruling party’s IT wing as assistant public relations officers (APROs) in the State Information and Public Relations department
In a statement, he contended such members of the IT wing of the DMK were unqualified to be appointed APROs. He recalled the Madras High Court’s ruling in 2016 that the relaxation of rules for recruitment should be made under exceptional circumstances and not as a matter of routine. It appeared the State government was about to withdraw its order regarding eligibility conditions wherein applicants for the post of APROs should have an undergraduate degree and another degree or diploma in media or public relations or media science. In the event of withdrawal of the conditions, only “unqualified and those who the government would like to be accommodated” would be appointed for the post. Besides, rules regarding the communal reservation, age, gender and differently abled would be relaxed, Mr Palaniswami apprehended.
The AIADMK leader urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to drop the reported move and appoint, through the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission (TNPSC), candidates for the post, following the rules regarding the eligibility conditions.
