Higher Education Minister R. Bindu has said that the government intends to implement the revised normalisation process for the KEAM State engineering entrance examination from the next academic year.

The proposed pattern had to be put on hold after the Kerala High Court annulled the original rank list published by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, and instructed the government to revert to the previous normalisation method.

While some students of the State Board challenged the High Court judgment in the Supreme Court, the State government decided against going in appeal, considering time constraints to complete the admission process.

In a statement, Dr. Bindu said the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) guidelines mandated that all admission procedures be completed by August 14. The State government, therefore informed the Supreme Court that a minimum of 30 days is required to complete the option registration and allotment process.

‘Willing to appeal’

The State also informed the apex court that the government is willing to appeal against the High Court’s verdict, “which affected the implementation of the revised prospectus”, if the AICTE is open to modifying the current admission deadline.

Dr. Bindu reiterated that the government had proposed to implement the revised mark normalisation process to ensure justice for all students. The reforms were intended to rectify disparities and were accordingly incorporated into the amended prospectus, she said.
