New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on the invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said at a briefing. According to the Russian embassy, the dates of Putin’s visit to India will be decided in early 2025.
“Our leaders have an agreement to hold meetings once a year. This time, it’s our turn,” the diplomat said. “We received Mr Modi’s invitation and we will certainly consider it positively. We will figure out the tentative dates early next year,” Yury Ushakov added.
During the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan held in October 2024, PM Modi extended an invitation to Putin to visit India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit next year.
The Prime Minister’s office later released a statement indicating that both leaders conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation across various domains, including political, economic, defence, energy, and people-to-people connections.
This marked their second encounter this year, following their previous meeting at the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in Moscow in July 2024.
At the meeting, PM Modi expressed gratitude for Putin’s BRICS Summit invitation and acknowledged Russia’s leadership in BRICS, particularly its dedication to strengthening multilateralism, promoting sustainable development, and advocating for global governance reforms.
The Prime Minister’s office said in their release, “The two leaders also reviewed bilateral cooperation in a range of fields, including political, economic, defence, energy, and people-to-people ties. They welcomed the forthcoming meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Cultural matters, which is scheduled to be held in November 2024 in New Delhi.”
The leaders discussed India-Russia collaboration in multilateral platforms, particularly BRICS, and exchanged perspectives on significant regional and global matters, including the Ukraine conflict.
