The second edition of the tri-services ‘future warfare course’ is scheduled to be held from April 21 to May 9, focusing on developing a comprehensive understanding of how evolving technology impacts warfare, necessitating a review of military concepts, doctrines, strategies, and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP).
The course, conducted under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), maintains a rank-agnostic approach and features enhanced and diverse participation, officials noted.
“The second edition continues the larger mission of making the Indian armed forces ‘future ready’, fostering jointness and integration among the services and developing strategic leaders equipped to navigate the increasingly complex landscape of modern warfare,” a defence official said. He stated that the expanded three-week programme builds on the success of the inaugural course held in September 2024 and follows the vision of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan to prepare officers for contemporary wardare challenges.
Participants in the course range from Major to Major General ranks and their equivalents from the Navy and Air Force. Representatives from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), defence start-ups, and private industry will also attend.
Officials said this edition features an enhanced curriculum covering specialised subjects and domain-specific warfare developments. The course structure will provide for deeper exploration of critical topics, include practical demonstrations of emerging technologies, and incorporate visits to institutions vital to the armed forces’ capabilities.
The course aims to align operational priorities with the capabilities of the indigenous defence industry and facilitate open discussions on various facets of modern and future warfare, the official added.
