PATIALA: Former Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Sunday hinted at retiring from politics soon after completing his services (Sewa) at sacred places in accordance with the religious punishment imposed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs. Dhindsa on Sunday performed his service at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib of Ropar district for the second consecutive day.
He performed guard duty for one hour, listened to Gurbani Kirtan for another hour, and then washed utensils for an additional hour on Sunday. He performed similar service on Saturday as well.
While replying to a media query, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Sunday hinted that he may quit politics soon after completing the religious punishment he is undergoing. The religious punishment was imposed on Akali leaders, including SS Dhindsa, by Sri Akal Takht, Amritsar, on December 2. Dhindsa also clarified his statement given on Saturday regarding Sukhbir Badal and said his acceptance of ‘whosoever be elected as party president’ did not mean support for Sukhbir.
He again condemned the incident of gunfire at Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, terming it as unfortunate.
On Saturday, Dhindsa, in response to a media query about his acceptance if Sukhbir is elected again as SAD party president, said, “Why would he (Sukhbir) not be accepted if elected again? Whosoever is elected will be accepted. We also want the new generation to take over.”
Sukhbir and other Akali leaders performed services on Thursday and Friday at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. However, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said he couldn’t join them for Sewa due to his deteriorating health.
