Telangana govt. gives administrative sanction of ₹11,000 crore for Young India residential schools-OxBig News Network

The State government has decided to take up construction of Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS) in 55 of the 119 assembly constituencies across the State with an outlay of ₹200 crore each.

The School Education department has given administrative sanction for ₹11,000 crore for the construction of the schools with latest infrastructural and educational facilities. The decision follows sanction of funds for taking up construction of three YIIRS by the Congress government a few months ago.

Several schools have been sanctioned for backward constituencies of Nagarkurnool, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Peddapalli, Nalgonda and Kumrambheem Asifabad districts. The State capital will have one school in Chandrayangutta assembly constituency and two more will come up at Chevella and Medchal abutting the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation jurisdiction.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka described the decision to accord administrative sanction for 55 schools at one go as historic and first-of-its-kind in the country. The schools are equipped to impart education of international standards to students hailing from poor families, weaker sections and middle class.

The Deputy Chief Minister, accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, told reporters that the facilities in the integrated residential schools had been proposed in such a manner that even private educational institutions would not be in a position to compete with them.

The schools would be set up on 20 to 25-acre area and would have facilities like sports arena and residential blocks for teaching staff in addition to the facilities that would be created for students to enable teaching in a digital mode. Each school would have laboratories, library and a mini app theatre, and would be developed in such a manner that students from weaker sections and poorer families who could not afford the exorbitant fee charged by private institutions could seek admissions there.

The syllabus was being designed to ensure that students passing from these schools could compete with others globally. The YIIRS had been contemplated taking inspiration from Opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge who were striving for social change and empowerment of all castes and communities in the country.

The government had decided to take up construction of the schools in spite of the challenges it was facing in terms of finances proving its commitment to spend every rupee earned for improving the living standards of the people.
