Two youths arrested on charge of harassing woman anchor at homestay in Kerala’s Kasaragod-OxBig News Network

Two youths were arrested for allegedly harassing a young woman anchor at a homestay at Kapil, near Uduma, Bekal, Kasaragod, Kerala, while under the influence of alcohol. The incident which occurred around midnight on Monday came to light after the woman released a video detailing her ordeal.

The Bekal police, led by Inspector K.P. Shine, arrested Mohammed Irshad (28) and N.S Abdullah (30) for threatening and attempting to forcibly enter the woman’s room. The complainant, also a vlogger, from Wayanad who had arrived at Bekal for a video promotion, was staying alone at the homestay when the incident occurred.

According to the woman, the trouble began shortly after she went to bed. Around 12 midnight, she received repeated calls from an unknown number. Upon blocking the number, she said someone began banging violently on her door trying to break in. Despite alerting the homestay owner and reception, she received no assistance and contacted the police through the emergency helpline 112.

The police took both the accused into custody.

In her video statement, the woman said she had never seen the men before. She confirmed their identification by calling back the blocked number after police intervention.

She further alleged that the men checked into the homestay late at 11.35 p.m., while she had arrived by 2.53 p.m. She claimed the female receptionist shared her phone number with the accused, stating they were her friends. She also reported being subjected to verbal abuse in obscene language. She also suspected the involvement of the owner of the homestay.

The police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.
