Walayar parents asked to appear before CBI court on April 25-OxBig News Network

The parents of the deceased Walayar girls, who the CBI has arraigned as accused in the abetment of rape of their minor daughters, will have to appear before the CBI next month (April 2025).

P. Sabarinathan, the Additional Special Judge, CBI III, Ernakulam, ordered a summons to the parents asking them to be present before the court on April 25.

Incidentally, the Kerala High Court had on Monday issued notices to the CBI on a petition filed by the parents seeking to quash the chargesheets filed against them in the cases. The couple also sought a directive to the CBI to conduct a further investigation into the death of their daughters from a homicidal angle.

The two girls were found hanging in their house. While the 13-year-old older girl was found hanging on January 13, 2017, the 9-year-old younger one was found dead on March 4, the same year. The investigation agency had concluded that the two minor sisters died by suicide.

When the trial court took up the case on Tuesday, the CBI special prosecutor P. Pious Mathew informed the court that the Kerala High Court has not stayed the proceedings in the case and hence the trial court shall proceed with the case. He also argued that there was no legal bar on the trial court to go ahead with the proceedings in the case.

The court accepted the chargesheet of the CBI in all six cases and arraigned the parents as accused in all of them.

The parents, who shall appear before the court in person on the scheduled day can apply for bail. V. Madhu, the first accused in five cases, who is already on bail, had appeared before the court when the case was considered on Tuesday.

The CBI had alleged in the chargesheet that the parents abetted the first accused to commit sexual assault on their two minor daughters and intentionally aided the accused for performing rape and sexual assault.
