Welfare assistance worth ₹4.87 crore was distributed by the district administration to 549 beneficiaries in the Nilgiris to mark the 69th death anniversary of B.R.Ambedkar on Friday.
In addition, a total of 455 sanitation workers in Udhagamandalam, Gudalur, Coonoor and Nelliyalam municipalities as well as workers in town and village panchayats were honoured by the Nilgiris district collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, and Chief government whip, K. Ramachandran, who is also the Coonoor MLA.
The Nilgiris district administration stated that the event, held in Udhagamandalam, involved various government departments, including the Department of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Revenue, Co-operative society, Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops, among others.
