India repatriates 67 nationals rescued from cybercrime trap in Cambodia

The Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, has initiated the repatriation process for 67 Indian nationals rescued on September 22. Embassy officials are overseeing the process and escorting the nationals at the airport.

The first batch of 15 left for India on September 30, followed by 24 on October 1. The remaining 28 are expected to arrive in India within the next few days.

These individuals were rescued by Cambodian Police after the embassy provided specific leads. They had fallen prey to fraudulent job offers from fake agents, luring them into cybercrime.

The Embassy of India continues to monitor the situation closely and remains committed to helping Indian nationals trapped in cybercrime. It advises Indian nationals to exercise extreme caution when considering job opportunities in Cambodia and other Southeast Asian countries through suspicious agents and social media advertisements.

Since January 2022, the Embassy has facilitated the repatriation of over 1,000 Indian citizens, with nearly 770 in the first 9 months of 2024.
