India hit back at Pakistan’s assertion that the Indian Army has been “politicised”, stating that Pakistan is the “progenitor” of cross-border terrorism and must cease its support for terrorism.
The reaction follows Pakistan Army’s claim on January 15 that the Indian Army has been “extremely politicised” after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi made statements criticising Islamabad. Singh accused Pakistan of repeatedly attempting to destabilise India through terrorism and demanded that Pakistan dismantle its terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) or face consequences.
Army Chief Dwivedi stated that Pakistan is the “epicentre” of terrorism and that the cycle of violence in Jammu and Kashmir is being orchestrated by Pakistan.
Responding to a query during a weekly briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The whole world knows who is promoting terrorism. When we have terror-related attacks in India, it’s clear where they originate from. Everybody understands the root of cross-border terrorism.”
Jaiswal added, “Given that the world acknowledges Pakistan’s role in promoting cross-border terrorism, their claims of politicisation are baseless. India calls upon Pakistan to stop supporting terrorism.”
