India slip to fourth in ICC Test rankings, maintain top spot in ODIs and T20Is-OxBig News Network

The Indian cricket team has slipped to the fourth spot in the latest men’s Test rankings released by the ICC (International Cricket Council) on Monday, May 05. The Rohit Sharma-led side has dropped down one place to be at the fourth spot, with 105 ratings to their name.

India’s drop comes following their back-to-back series losses against New Zealand and Australia. The Kiwis inflicted a historic whitewash on the Asian Giants, beating them by 3-0 for the first time ever on the latter’s home soil.

On the other hand, Australia beat them 3-1 in the five-match Test series in 2024-25, which meant that India had to give up their hold on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2017.

Apart from them, England have made a rapid rise in the rankings, climbing to the second spot with 113 ratings to their name. The Ben Stokes-led side have reaped the reward of their series victories over West Indies, Sri Lanka and New Zealand over the past year.

World Test Championship (WTC) defending champions Australia continued to stay at the top with 126 ratings, while the finalist of the upcoming WTC final, South Africa, slipped to third spot with 111 ratings to their name.

While India suffered a drop in the Test rankings, they continued their dominance in the white-ball formats, being at the top of both ODI and T20I rankings. The Men in Blue bolstered their position at the top spot in the ODI rankings with 124 ratings, following their Champions Trophy 2025 triumph. The Suryakumar Yadav-led young brigade also maintained their top spot in T20I rankings, after remaining unbeaten in bilateral series throughout 2024.

Afghanistan rise above England in ODI rankings

Meanwhile, there were various other changes in the ODI rankings as the Champions Trophy 2025 runner-ups New Zealand, surpassed Australia to take the second spot with 109 ratings.

Sri Lanka also continued their rapid rise in ODIs following series victories over India and Australia as they overtook Pakistan to occupy fourth spot with 104 ratings. Afghanistan also showed massive improvement as they gained four points following a remarkable campaign in the Champions Trophy.

They’re now ranked above England (84 ratings) on seventh spot with 91 ratings. West Indies also rose to ninth spot after gaining five points and Bangladesh slipped to tenth after a four-point loss.

Sri Lanka also overtook Pakistan in the T20I rankings, being at the seventh spot with 235 ratings. For the first time ever, 100 teams featured in the annual update of the ICC T20I rankings, including all sides that have played a minimum of eight T20Is over the past three years.
