Indian cities on high alert, US asks its citizens not to travel to Kashmir-OxBig News Network

Top Indian metropolitan cities, including the national capital, are on high alert, especially guarding their tourist places following the deadly Pahalgam attack where 27 tourists were gunned down in one of the most barbaric terror attacks of recent times.

The attack, targeting tourists in the picturesque town of Pahalgam, has prompted a nationwide security response to prevent potential follow-up incidents.

According to officials, authorities have intensified security protocols in key metropolitan areas, including Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Amritsar, and Jammu. Measures include increased surveillance at airports, railway stations, and other critical infrastructure. Security personnel have been deployed in greater numbers, and random checks are being conducted to ensure public safety.

In Delhi, the police have augmented patrolling in sensitive zones and are coordinating with intelligence agencies to monitor any suspicious activities. Mumbai has similarly ramped up its security apparatus, focusing on crowded public spaces and transportation hubs.

The police forces in several states have cautioned the residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The government has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure their safety and security.

Meanwhile, the United States has issued an advisory for its citizens and asked them not to travel to Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of Pahalgam attack as violent civil unrest is possible.

“Terrorist attacks and violent civil unrest are possible in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.  Do not travel to this state (with the exception of visits to the eastern Ladakh region and its capital, Leh),” the advisory read.

It further stated that violence happens sporadically in this area and is common along the Line of Control (LOC) between India and Pakistan. “It also occurs in tourist spots in the Kashmir Valley: Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam.  The Indian government does not allow foreign tourists to visit certain areas along the LOC,” it said.
