Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari has said that the Centre has launched road infrastructure projects worth about ₹50,000 crore in Kerala.
“We have 31 upcoming projects spanning 896 kilometres costing about ₹50,000 crore,” said Mr. Gadkari in his online address at the Invest Kerala Global Summit organised by the Left front government in Kerala here on Friday (February 21, 2025).
“Apart from this, the Centre has already completed ₹20,000-crore-worth road infra projects in the State,” he said.
Among the new projects, the four-laning of Palakkad-Kozhikode section of the NH-966 will include a distance of 120 km and a cost of about ₹10,800 crore, he added.
The Minister said that the Angamaly-Kundanoor Ernakulam bypass spanning 45 km involved an investment of about ₹6,500 crore. This project is in the DPR stage and works are expected to begin in six months.
He said the Thiruvananthapuram outer ring road with a distance of 62.7 km involved an investment of about ₹5,000 crore. The work on the project is expected to begin in 4-5 months. “The land acquisition will begin now. The roadworks will begin as soon as 90% of the land is acquired. This will provide a seamless connectivity to the Vizhinjam port and a main corridor for port-based development,” he said.
