IPL 2025: Vaibhav Suryavanshi needs to learn to handle failures, says Ravi Shastri-OxBig News Network

Ravi Shastri emphasised that Vaibhav Suryavanshi must learn to handle failures in order to achieve long-term success in his career. Shastri was highly impressed by the 14-year-old when he smashed a six off his very first ball on debut for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Suryavanshi continued his aggressive approach, taking on Avesh Khan and scoring 34 runs off 20 balls, including two fours and three sixes. He was eventually dismissed by Aiden Markram after building an 85-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal in 8.4 overs.

Shastri pointed out that at Suryavanshi’s age, setbacks are inevitable, and his ability to navigate failures will play a crucial role in shaping his career. The veteran said that bowlers will try to intimidate the youngster with short balls.

“I think the first shot he played, that would have taken everyone’s breath away. But, he’s young, so I would say just let him play a bit because it’s at that age, there’s bound to be failure as well. It’s how he handles failure,” Shastri said on the latest episode of ICC Review.

“People will come up with new things. There’ll be lots of short stuff thrown at him. When you tonk someone’s first ball for six, then you show no mercy. Then you don’t care whether he’s 14 years old or 12 years old or 20 years old,” Shastri added.

In two games thus far, Suryavanshi has scored 50 runs at an average of 25 and a strike-rate of 156.25. The southpaw got a chance in the RR playing XI after Sanju Samson sustained an injury.

The Royals are languishing at ninth in the table with four points and a net run rate of -0.625. Having lost their last five matches, the Royals are in dire straits.
