Actor Jay Thakkar, who began his journey in Indian television as a child artiste, is now stepping into the spotlight with a key role in the upcoming film ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. After years of working in TV, advertisements, and making small appearances in big films like ‘Ram Setu’ and ‘Dream Girl’, Jay is excited to finally play a character that is important to the story.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Jay shared a lovely memory of working with Rajkummar Rao in a 2007 short film ‘Uss Din’, where he played his son. “Since then, we’ve had a good bond. Back then, we both were struggling,” he said.
Jay praised Rajkummar as a “secure actor” who supports his co-actors and gives them space to improvise saying, “He likes to appreciate other people’s art… it was a family-type mahool on set,” Jay added.
Jay reveals his character gives direction to Rajkummar in the film
“It’s not a secondary character. It’s giving direction to Rajkummar’s character in the film,” he shared, adding that the role is fun but also emotionally rich, filled with “sadness, surprises and great jokes in the Banarasi dialect.”
He also mentioned that director Karan Sharma appreciated his earlier work in UP65, which helped him land the role. Jay called the opportunity “like god working behind my back.” “Everyone thought it was the best decision,” he added.
‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ is directed by Karan Sharma and is set to release on 9 May.
