Legendary India cricketer Kapil Dev has asked people not to compare star India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah with him. Bumrah has been capturing the attention of the entire cricketing fraternity with his tremendous exploits in international cricket in recent times. He recently also broke the record of Kapil Dev (51 wickets) to register the most Test wickets by an Indian bowler in Australia during the recent Test series.

Bumrah has scalped 64 wickets from 12 matches (23 innings) in Australia at an average of 17.15 with four five-wicket hauls to his name, with best match figures of 9/86. Following Bumrah’s marvellous show with the ball, Kapil urged people to not compare him with the rising India fast bowler saying it’s unfair to compare players from different generations.

“Please do not compare (me with Bumrah); you cannot compare one generation with another. The boys of today score 300 runs in a single day, which didn’t happen in our time. So, don’t compare,” Kapil told media.

Bumrah was adjudged Player of the series as he finished as the highest wicket-taker across five Tests against Australia with 32 wickets from nine innings at an average of 13.06 with three five-wicket hauls to his name. He etched his name in the history books, registering the most wickets by an Indian bowler in a single series in Australia, surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi’s tally of 31 wickets from 1977-78.

Doubts over Bumrah’s Champions Trophy Participation

However, Bumrah’s magnificent series came to a tragic end as he injured himself midway through the fifth Test in Sydney and opted not to bowl in the match from Day 2 onwards. His unforeseen injury has also put him in doubt for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

India Today has learnt that Bumrah has been asked to visit the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sources privy to the matter have stated that Bumrah might be named in the provisional Champions Trophy squad, but the final call on his participation in the mega event will be taken on the basis of his recovery at the NCA.
