‘Love you’: Jaya Bachchan’s welcome to Aishwarya Rai into family goes viral

A heartwarming throwback video featuring veteran actress Jaya Bachchan is making waves on social media.

The clip is from the 2007 Filmfare Awards, where Jaya was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

During her acceptance speech—delivered just months before Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding—she publicly welcomed Aishwarya into the Bachchan family in an emotional moment that touched many hearts.

“Today, I’m going to be a mother-in-law all over again to a wonderful, lovely girl, who has great values, great dignity, and a lovely smile. I welcome you to the family. Love you,” Jaya said from the stage.

She added, “I thought this would be the right time to accept this award. I’d like to say, Almighty, whoever he or she may be, hum ko man ki Shakti dena, man vijay kare. Jhooth se door rahe aur sach ka man bharein.” (Give us mental strength, let the mind win. Stay away from lies and fill the mind with truth.)

Seated in the audience, a visibly moved Aishwarya could not hold back her tears at her soon-to-be mother-in-law’s love and acceptance. The clip also shows Amitabh Bachchan getting teary-eyed. The clip has now resurfaced online and is going viral, reminding fans of the strong bond shared within the Bachchan family.

This was not the only time Jaya praised Aishwarya. During an earlier appearance on “Koffee With Karan”, she described as a perfect fit for the Bachchan family.

“She is such a big star herself. But when we are all together, I have never seen her push herself forward. She stands behind, is quiet, listening and taking it all in,” Jaya said.

She added, “Aishwarya has fitted in so beautifully—not just into the family, but also into our lives and social circles. She is a strong woman with a lot of dignity.”

Aishwarya and Abhishek tied the knot in April 2007. The power duo welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya, in November 2011.
